JD Lash scholarship applications can be picked up at the front desk. The deadline is July 1, 2008 to submit an application. Recipients will be announced on August 1, 2008.
A key member of SkateQuest's coaching staff, JD Lash passed away from cancer (leiomyosarcoma) on October 10, 2003. It was JD's wish that his vision be carried out in the form of a skating foundation.
The mission of the foundation is two-fold. The JD Lash Memorial Skating Foundation will provide financial aid to those youngsters who have the potential to be outstanding hockey players or figure skaters but cannot afford to do so. The second purpose of the fund will provide siblings of cancer patients the opportunity to learn how to skate. Life with Cancer, a support group at Inova Hospital, will coordinate with SkateQuest on a weekly basis.
